Rick Carnegy, Blue Ridge Parkway , North Carolina, USA.Hi Jim,
Just wanted to give you another ride report. Last week I spent 3 days
riding up in the Appalachian Mountains along the Blue Ridge Parkway and many
other mountain roads.
Starting off the fall temps were in the low 40's. I was very comfortable
wearing the undergarment under a fleece liner and my mid-weight Olympia Ultra
Tour Light Jacket and pants. By the time the temps had reached the low 50's I
had to shed the fleece liner as I was getting too warm. As the day wore on and
the temps climed into the lower 60's I slightly opened a couple of the air vents
to keep temperatures from getting too warm inside.
One nice thing about wearing this undergarment is when you come inside from
being in the cold, and you have on all that gear, the garment helps keep you
from getting too hot in the drastically warmer temperatures indoors. If you do
begin to perspire the garment wicks away the persperation just as it does when
you are riding in 90+ degree summer days, so you get the best of both worlds.
I don't care to wear long sleeves. Even in the winter I never wear them.
For some reason I've always felt them too warm, but I like the fact that the
undergarment has long sleeves, because it breathes so well and you don't have to
worry about feeling hot while wearing it. It also has the very nice added bonus
of keeping your arms from feeling cold from the very cold feeling inner liners
found in most motorcycle jackets when temperatures fall. I even like the long
sleeves in the summer because if I ride with my mesh jacket it helps keep the
skin on my arms from becoming wind-burned or drying out. Of course it also
gives you that extra layer of protection in the event of a fall that can keep
you from getting burnt from the heat coming through your riding jacket while
sliding across the pavement.
I just ordered a battery powered heated vest that I am anxious to try out
with the garment. I think between the undergarment and the vest I may be able
to reduce the number of layers while riding in freezing temps signifigantly. I
suspect the heated vest will work well with the undergarment in helping to
distribute the heat better and keep me warmer due to the air flow properties of
the garment. I'll let you know how it performs with the garment once it
arrives and I have a chance to test it out both with the garment and without
it.
Thanks again Jim, I love wearing your garments when I ride, especially on
long trips. They make the rides so much more comfortable and enjoyable!
